Reading Time: 3 minutes
Today we are happy to announce that Cloze is now available on the App Store for both iPhone and iPad.
Lately there has been a push (and some hype ☺) to replace the native iPhone and iPad mail app to better handle inbox overload, but the problem is deeper than just re-skinning it with a better design or fancy gestures. Inboxes have had our priorities backwards. The “top level” sort is channel (email, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter – spread across each of these apps). Second is time the message arrived. Third is the people involved. If the most important person I’m working with reaches out to me on Twitter, should that really take a backseat to someone I don’t care about that reached out five minutes earlier on email? Of course not. It really needs to be people first – with time and channel coming next.
As we learned from many of you, our early web app users, you need quick access to the people that matter most as you move through your day, but checking several apps and sifting through hundreds of messages wastes the precious time you have to actually catch-up and take action. It should be automatic and pre- sorted so you can focus on building stronger relationships. Cloze is now a full-featured mobile inbox for email and social.
The philosophy behind Cloze:
- Unite contacts, email and social all in one place
- Less noise through smart filtering of non-humans and those you don’t know well
- People always come first, channel and time are secondary
Our take on the mobile inbox has what we call “noise-canceling”. When you enter the Cloze mobile app you will find your Key People organized together in a list—everything from them across email, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter all in one filtered inbox. The rest is tucked away for when you have more time. You can set how many people are included in the Key People list and add others as well. We’ll automatically update this list as new relationships form and others become less active. How we determine your Key People, the filtering and prioritization, is still guided by the Cloze Score—our measure of relationship strength. We have tuned our scoring algorithm, by analyzing over 1 billion messages sent among more than 25 million connections. Of course, we recognize that no algorithm can ever be perfect – which is why we also let you adjust someone’s Cloze Score to where you think it should be, and why we let you adjust your Key People list.
Cloze solves the inbox overload problem by bringing together all of your relationships from email and social into a single view. It learns who is important to you and puts them up front, filtering out the noise of everything else. So you can spend less time sorting and deleting and focus on what you want to read, from the people that matter to you right now.
